Flat Tops Wilderness
This photo was taken by Gene of our horses grazing near our Marvine Lake Camp on the Flat Tops Wilderness. The Flat Tops Wilderness Area is the 2nd largest Wilderness area in Colorado at 235,214 acres and was designated in 1975.
“If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them something more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it.” -President Lyndon B. Johnson on signing the Wilderness Act of 1964
Moose
This photo was taken yesterday by the County Road Crew, just below the Marvine Campground located at the Marvine Trailhead. Colorado Division of Wildlife brought in 19 moose in 2009 and 20 moose in January, 2010. We are very excited about having moose in the area. Several of our hunters were lucky enough to get a glimpse of them last Fall. The plan is to be able to hunt them sometime in the future. We are definitely looking forward to that!
2009/2010 Winter
A question that is often asked of me this time of year is, “How was your Winter and how did the elk do over the Winter?”. I recently read that our snow pack for the winter was 76% and that we can expect a dry 2010. The elk have therefore done very well this winter. Stay tuned for an update on this page from the Colorado Division of Wildlife on the current conditions of our elk herd.
